Failure due to vibration
Failure due to vibration
I have a clutch on a riding mower. When it failed, I was told it due to vibration and that it had a 'bobbin coil". Does this sound plausible? What is a bobbin coil? Is there are better coil to use for this application? Any input would be appreciated.
Re: Failure due to vibration
Clutches fitted for outdoor equipment typically have a wound coil that is potted. It seals out contaminants. It keeps the coil from bouncing all over the place too.
The electromagnetic clutches used on riding mowers are pretty rugged. Perhaps someone replaced the original clutch with some inferior type to try and save a few bucks.
